South Devon Coastal Renewable Energy Network

2010-2012, 2 year project
The South Devon Coastal Renewable Energy Network aims to work with residents of Southern South Hams to help develop renewable energy projects, as well as supporting and showcasing installations.
The network was launched on Thursday 8th December 2010 at Slapton Village Hall and has since seen 2 Renewable Energy Expeditions taking place in Totnes and Kingsbridge/Modbury areas. Sites visited included a community living completely off the gas and electricity networks, a house that has reduced its carbon emissions by 96% and organic farm education centre. The interactive and informative visits proved very successful, helping to showcase and communicate various technologies, including wind-turbines, solar thermal and solar photovoltaic panels, micro-hydro systems, wood-fuel boilers and ground source heat pumps.
During the project lifespan, other activities will include:
- Composing a database of renewable energy installations, services and installers in South Devon
- Web development
- Support the South Devon RE Network
- Turn installs into local case studies
- Press and media contributions across South Devon
- Supporting RE networking events
- Work with community building groups and supporters to enable them to incorporate and finance renewable systems in renovation and new building work
Energy Action Devon received funding from South Devon Coastal Local Action Group to establish, manage and support a Renewable Energy Network.
