Devon & Cornwall Housing and Energy Action Devon worked in partnership secure bespoke funding for the Plymouth Warm Start fuel poverty project.
Managed by Energy Action Devon, the project aimed to provide tenants with the resources and knowledge to enable them to live sustainability and out of fuel poverty. There were fantastic outcomes over the 12 month period:
- Over 211 tenants were advised
- Installation of 928 energy saving measures
- Installation of 29 renewable energy systems
- Installation of 37 Current Cost metres
- Installation of 37 water saving devices
- Distribution of 638 low energy light bulbs
- 6 Devon & Cornwall Housing staff members completed training in fuel poverty and renewable energy technologies
How did it all happen? The project team played the lead role in:
- Facilitation of insulation measures on site
- Feasibility study, working in partnership with the maintenance team
- Provision of face to face advice to tenants on energy efficiency, water, waste and recycling through home visits and events. This included referrals to appropriate services and advice centres.
Based on the installations from the project, a calculation of 131.66 Tonnes of CO2 has been saved per year. Such investments in housing will have a profound effect on the occupants, playing a key role in improving disposable income and improving health.
Energy Action Devon would like to thank Scottish Power Energy Peoples Trust, who supported their funding application. The project was awarded £42,250; an excellent contribution to the local community with fantastic results.
