Updates on selling your energy
Recently the government has made announcement on the two schemes which pay people for generating heat or electricity from renewable sources
Renewable Heat Incentive
The Renewable Heat Incentive enables householders and organisations to receive an income for generating renewable heat from sources such as biomass, solar thermal, heat pumps, and biomethane. The scheme will be rolled out in two phases, the first of which will begin in July 2011.
From July 2011 non-domestic generators will be able to access the full tariff rates. The tariffs for domestic customers have not yet been finalised, so from July 2011 householders can claim a 'premium payment' in the interim before the scheme begins in earnest in October 2012 alongside the introduction of the Green Deal.
The tariffs for non-domestic customers have been published by DECC and can be downloaded here.
The interim 'premium payments' for domestic customers have been set at:
- Solar thermal - £300/unit
- Air source heat pumps - £850/unit
- Biomass boilers - £950/unit
- Ground source heat pumps - £1250/unit
Further guidance for householders will be published in May 2011.
Full details of the RHI and supporting information can be found on the DECC website.
Feed in Tariff
The feed in tariff has been increased in line with the Retail Price Index, so from 1st April 2011 the tariff has increased by 4.8%.
People who were already receiving the FIT will find that their payment will have increased. The table below shows the updated rates, the tariff is in pence per kilowatt hour (p/kWh).
