Its National Recycle Week!

This week (21st - 27th June) is National Recycle Week and the perfect opportunity to think about why you should be throwing away less and recycling more.

    *   Using recycled materials to produce new goods uses much less energy than producing new products from raw materials - even when comparing all associated costs including transport etc.

    *   The Recycle Now website has some brilliant animations that show how various items can be recycled: http://www.recyclenow.com/how_is_it_recycled/index.html

    *   The focus on this year's Recycle Week is small waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) such as kettles, hairdryers, mobile phones and even lawnmowers and sanders.

    *   Many WEEEs contain important plastics and metals that can be recycled to make new products. For example, just one toaster can provide enough steel to make 25 new cans.

    *   Three out of ever four of us have at least one old or unused electrical item in our homes that could be recycled. Customers should consult the Recycle Now website for a full list of recyclables: www.recyclenow.com

    *   Of course, it's not just WEEEs that can be given a second life and many Local Authorities carry out doorstep collections for recyclable materials. Please consult with your local council to find out what can be recycled in your area.

There will be many public events happening throughout the UK during Recycle Week. More information can be found on the Recycle Now website: www.recyclenow.com
