Exmoor National Park grants planning permission for EAD's PassivHaus refurb
Exmoor National Park have just approved our planning application for our PassivHaus Retrofit project in Barbrook!
Excerpts from their comments specifically mentions how highly they value energy reduction measures:
"The proposed Passivhaus Retro-fit for these dwellings does not conform to traditional vernacular architecture typical of Exmoor National Park. However, in considering the merits of the application and notably the immediate context of the application site it is acknowledged that those dwelling immediate to the site, which provide its visual setting and context, are themselves not typical of the traditional vernacular."
"The Local Plan policies give favourable consideration to proposals incorporating energy efficiency and resource conservation measures. It is imperative to tackle climate change by reducing reliance on technology which produces high levels of carbon dioxide emissions and this is a significant material consideration."
"Having regard to this and in considering the particular context of the existing built form for this site, it is judged that the proposed development can be adequately accommodated without compromising the 2 main purposes of National Park's and without causing significant adverse effects on the qualities for which the area has been designated. The benefits of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and providing sustainable forms of residential development have weighed heavily in this judgement, as has the fact that no objections have been received and the Town Council's support for the development."
