Feed in tariffs

DECC has published the consultation for financial incentives for renewable energy. The proposed tariff structure will reward people who install small scale microgeneration and use the electricity in their own homes. Below is a brief summary of the proposed tariffs.

  • PV systems <4 kWp: 36.5 p/kWh for 25 years (7% degression)
  • Wind turbines 1.5 kW - 15 kW: 23 p/kWh for 20 years (3% degression)
  • Hydro turbines <10 kW: 17 p/kWh for 20 years (0% degression)

You will earn money in three ways:

  1. You will be rewarded for every kWh that you generate (see above figures)
  2. You will be paid for every kWh you export (TBC but likely around 5 p/kWh)
  3. You will offsetthe import cost for every kWh that you generate and use on site (dependent on your own tariff, current domestic electricity unit is 12 p/kWh)
