Karl Braun - Renewable Energy Consultant
Karl is a Biologist and educator having recently graduated from the MSc Architecture at CAT, during which he specialised in scoping the potential for Community Bio-Heat in the South West. This work highlighted the importance of sustainable management of woodlands as a driver for socio-environmental welfare. When he's not looking after the vege garden and chickens and pretending to be a 'giant man-eating crocodile' for a three year old 'pirate'; he's working towards establishing a Community Interest Company to deliver projects that enhance community resilience to future energy and food security risks.
Karl is working with Sarika on the biomass feasibility study for the South Devon Coastal Renewable Energy Network
Emma-Kate Brown - Energy Services Manager (maternity leave)
Emma-Kate joined us in 2005 and since then has worked on a number of projects including Energy Buddy and Warm Up. She currently oversees the Energy Services schemes, including CosyDevon and PLEA, as well as building an evidence base for sustainable energy activity in Devon. She is also responsible for the organisation's Environmental Management System.
Prior to starting here, Emma-Kate was the Inner London Green Gym Development Officer for BTCV, establishing and delivering a number of 'Green Gym' volunteering projects in central London; and before that worked for Trees for Cities on community-based urban greening schemes. She has also spent time in South America assisting with climate change research.
Emma-Kate holds an MSc from Imperial College in Environmental Technology, where she specialised in Global Environmental Change and Policy. She worked with Forum for the Future on her thesis, mapping UK sustainability indicators against a framework for a sustainable society.
Christine Crocker - Project Manager (Operations and Finance)
Christine joined us in November 2007. After working a variety of roles at EAD Christine now manages both the Cosy Devon and the PLEA schemes.
Prior to working for us Christine was employed as a Retail Administration Assistant and PA for a large retail store. She has also worked in both the Telecoms and Insurance industries.
Tom Ferguson - Energy Advisor
Tom attended St Boniface's College from September 2001 to July 2007. There he gained 11 GCSES'S A*-C and 3 AS Levels. He then completed an apprenticeship in business administration at Derriford Hospital. Tom then worked for Plymouth City council in various departments including Electoral services, Payroll, Environmental Protection and the contact centre.
Tom then joined Energy Action Devon in February 2009 as an apprentice. He completed another NVQ in Customer Service and also gained the NEA City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness qualification and the NEA City and Guilds 6176 Renewable Energy In The Home qualification.
In February 2010 Tom was awarded the apprentice of the year by his training provider, Achievement Training, at the "Celebrating success awards ceremony".
Tom now works full time as an energy advisor for the Energy Saving Trust advice centre giving advice to the public on how to save energy and also information on what grants are available to improve energy efficiency in the home. Tom is also the administrator for the Energy Saving Trust team.
Fay Grundy - Energy Advisor
After graduating from Plymouth University in 2011 with a degree in Bsc Geography (Honours), Fay joined the EAD team in August 2011 as an Energy Advisor for the Energy Saving Trust. Fay has completed her NEA/City and Guilds 6176 qualification in Energy Awareness.
Sophie Phillips - Project Manager / Renewable Energy Advisor (maternity leave)
Sophie joined EAD in May 2006 as an Energy Advisor for the Devon Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, and has worked on several domestic and school energy projects. In Feb 07 she started as Renewable Energy Advisor for Renewable Energy 4 Devon, and now works as part of the Technical Services team offering on site energy assessments to houseolders and organisations. In 2009 Sophie also began managing a hard to treat retrofit project and delivering EAD's Passivhaus refurb Retrofit for the Future project.
Prior to joining EAD Sophie worked at Centre for Sustainable Energy in Bristol, supporting micro generation workshops, and as part of the team at the Bristol and Somerset EEAC. She graduated from the University of Bath in 2005 with a BSc(hons) in Economics and International Development, since then Sophie has undertaken various training courses including several RE courses at the Centre for Alternative Technology, and Practical Project Management at DSC, she is a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor.
Bethany Redley - Energy Advice Manager
Bethany joined Energy Action Devon in April 2008. She leads a team of 5 energy advisors in the Devon hub and is the Operations Manager (South) of the South West Energy Saving Trust advice centre, managing the day-to-day operations and staff and is also involved in the development of the advice service for Energy Action Devon.
Bethany has a BA (Hons) degree in Geography from the University of Plymouth and previously worked for the Dorset Countryside Service. She has also gained the NEA/City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness and 6176/02 Renewable Energy in the Home qualifications. More recently Bethany is completing the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Management course.
Sally Tremayne - Finance Controller
After working for many years in the finance industry, Sally joined our team 4 years ago in the role of Financial Administrator.
Sally has over 40 years' experience of financial and office administration. She has the responsibility for the day-to-day financial administration of Energy Action Devon.
Cherry Wren - Grants and Schemes Manager (maternity leave)
Cherry Wren joined EAD as an Energy Advisor in August 2007. She is now working full time as Grants & Schemes Manager for an insulation scheme known as CosyDevon. Her role involves managing the local authority budgets which contribute to subsidise the cost of insulation for homeowners and private tenants through CosyDevon.
Before joining EAD Cherry graduated from the University College Plymouth St Mark and St John with a degree in Geography with Management. Since working for EAD she has also gained the NEA/City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness qualification, ITQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 4 Management.
Sharon Yeoman - Senior Project Manager
Sharon joined Energy Action Devon in July 2008. She began as an Energy Advisor for the Energy Saving Trust advice centre where her role involved giving advice to the public on how to save energy and also information on what grants are available to improve energy efficiency in the home.
In 2009 Sharon progressed to Project Officer then Project Manager working on the CosyDevon insulation scheme, where she primarily works on marketing and working with community partners. She graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2008 with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology. Her previous employment includes working in horticulture whilst living in New Zealand, retail and customer service. She has also gained the NEA/City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness qualification.
